Meet the candidates: Election events happening Sept. 22-28 in Hampton Roads

Hampton Roads community groups are hosting debates and forums with candidates ahead of the Nov. 5 elections. Here's a list of events scheduled for Sept. 22-28.

The Chesapeake branch of the NAACP and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Chesapeake-Virginia Beach Alumnae Chapter are hosting virtual candidate forums for Chesapeake School Board and City Council on Monday.

School board candidates will speak first on Monday, from 6 to 7 p.m. People can register to attend the Zoom discussion at bit.ly/3MmaRBV . The discussion with City Council candidates follows from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. and people can register at bit.ly/4dRDP8M .

The Rural Chesapeake Preservation Committee is hosting a forum with candidates running for city office on Wednesday. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the forum is from 6-8 p.m. at the Hickory Ruritan Club, located at 2752 South Battlefield Blvd. in Chesapeake. Candidates running for Chesapeake mayor, City Council and the school board are invited. Moderators are accepting questions submitted ahead of time to .
