BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police detectives are investigating two separate shooting incidents that happened on Saturday evening and left one man dead and two others wounded.

"Melbourne police detectives are investigating both incidents and attempting to determine if they are connected," said a Melbourne police spokesperson.

In the first shooting at 3:25 p.m., Melbourne police officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Camphor Way regarding a shooting, an on arrival discovered an adult male had been shot and was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.

According to police, it was reported an unknown male had exited a light-colored car and began shooting at the victim and at least one other male who were in the driveway of a home. After the shooting the perp fled the area.

The victim's name is not being released at this time.

Homicide Investigation

Then, at 7:24 p.m., as investigators were still on scene on Camphor Way, a large crowd had gathered nearby at Eddie Lee Taylor Park at 3316 Monroe Street.

"Most of the crowd was at the park to watch youth football games," said a Melbourne police spokesperson. "However, a large crowd has also gathered throughout the park believed to be after the funeral of Craig Dewberry who was murdered on September 10, 2024, at the Tip Top Mini Market."

At 7:24 p.m. gunshots were heard at the entrance to the park and the crowd immediately began to flee the area in different directions, and it was later discovered two adult males had been shot.

One was transported to the hospital by car, and he is currently in critical condition. Another male victim found in the parking lot was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and was declared dead upon arrival.

Currently, the victims names are not being released by authorities.
