Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi is at the top of the Braves' wish list this offseason, reports Mark Bowman of MLB.com . Eovaldi recently declined his $20 million option with the Texas Rangers and became a free agent. The 34-year-old's contract included a vesting option for 2025 that hinged on him pitching more than 300 innings over the last two years. He put up 314 2/3 innings while going 24-13 with a 3.72 ERA in 54 games in 2023 and 2024. Eovaldi signed his contract with Texas after the 2022 season following four years with the Red Sox. He was an All-Star in 2021 and finished fourth in voting that year for the American League Cy Young Award, but he struggled with injuries in 2022, going 6-3 with a 3.87 ERA in 20 starts. Eovaldi made his MLB debut in 2011 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who traded him the next year to the Marlins. After the the 2014 season, Miami traded Eovaldi to the Yankees as a part of the deal that sent right-hander Domingo Germán and utility man Garrett Jones to the to New York as well. In two years with the Yankees, Eovalid went 23-11 with a 4.45 ERA, and eventually required Tommy John surgery. The Yankees released him after the 2016 season.
