Metuchen Gears Up For 125th Birthday With Special Celebration The Borough announced a special initiative – Metuchen Is America – that connects the Borough's birthday with America's Semiquincentennial.

METUCHEN, NJ – The Brainy Borough is all set to celebrate its 125th birthday next year.

To commemorate this landmark, the Borough announced the "Metuchen Is America" initiative. This special celebration connects Metuchen's birthday on March 20, 2025, with America's 250th birthday ((also known as the Semiquincentennial) on July 4, 2026.

According to Mayor Jonathan M. Busch, the initiative is designed to highlight Metuchen's unique role as a quintessential American community, rooted in history, resilience, and enduring spirit.

"Over the next two years, we'll embark on a journey that honors Metuchen's contributions to our nation and the richness of our community. Through a series of events, educational programs, and cultural showcases, we'll shine a light on our shared heritage, celebrate the diversity and creativity of our residents, and explore what makes Metuchen a symbol of American values and innovation," Busch said.

The "Metuchen Is America" initiative will bring together residents of all ages to celebrate the Borough's roots, enduring patriotism, and the bright future.

It will explore what it means to be a Metuchenite and an American.

The Borough has formed a commission to make the celebration a unique one. Members of the Borough's "Metuchen Is America" Commission are Councilmember Joel Branch; Council President Jason Delia; Jason Geary – Dean, Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University; Vidhi Goel – Local Community Leader and Strategic Marketing; Edmund O'Brien – 32nd Mayor of Metuchen; Melissa Perilstein, Borough Administrator; Angela Pineiro – Owner, Blue Parachute; Tyreen Reuter – Director, Metuchen-Edison Historical Society and David Sahib – Lieutenant, Metuchen Fire Department.

"Each of these dedicated individuals brings unique talents and a deep-rooted passion for our community," Busch said.

"In the weeks and months ahead, we'll provide more details about the celebration and highlight specific volunteer opportunities, inviting everyone to join us in marking this important moment in our history."
