Minot to hold 10th annual Magic City Turkey Trot
MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) — Get ready to run before you gobble as the Magic City Figure Skating Club's Synchro Teams will be hosting their 10th annual Magic City Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving.
Synchronized skating is a team sport where eight or more people skate together in sync while performing difficult tasks. The variety and difficulty of elements require that each team member be a highly skilled individual skater. The Magic City Figure Skating Club is home to two synchro teams, the Magic Edges and the Magic Picks.
"Magic City Figure Skating has a long line of Synchronized Skating teams dating back to the late 70s," Program Director Barb Kohlman said. "It can be an expensive sport with outfitting the team, travel, ice time, and coaching. The Turkey Trot helps to offset some of those costs to make it more affordable for skaters to be a part of a team."
The Turkey Trot is just one of the major fundraisers for Magic City Synchro and typically draws around 300 runners, walkers, and dogs. The 1-mile fun run/walk and 5K run/walk takes place every year on the morning of Thanksgiving, with proceeds going to the synchronized skating teams in Minot. This year, the Turkey Trot will be on Thursday, November 28th at 9 a.m.
The race starts at the Brick Studio building in downtown Minot, with a course going through downtown and Roosevelt Park. Costumes are encouraged, and prizes will be awarded for the best dressed and most spirited runners. After the race, there will also be opportunities to win a Thanksgiving Day pie.
You can register online at the Magic City Turkey Trot website . Those who have pre-registered by November 15th will receive free t-shirts. Strollers and friendly dogs on leashes are welcome. Children five & under are free. No refunds will be offered.
