Misspelled road signs cause confusion at Fort Myers roundabout project
A multi-million dollar roundabout project was supposed to make your drive smoother, but now there is confusion thanks to two signs.
Someone misspelled the road names. Instead of Winkler Avenue, the signs reads "Wrinkler Avenue."
Construction workers just completed this roundabout that sits by Ray V. Pottorf Elementary School and Dunbar Middle School, connecting Winkler Ave and Challenger Boulevard in Fort Myers.
This is just south of Colonial Blvd.
People are having to take a second look at the name as they are left quite confused.
"Like, it's not very educated, you know? How do you misspell Winkler to Wrinkled? Maybe their shirts were wrinkled that day," said Fort Myers resident Charlie Lyles.
We saw the misspelled signs late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, but by Tuesday afternoon they were gone.
ABC7 asked the city how they got put in the first place. They said a contractor made a mistake and are working on getting new signs up as soon as possible.
