UPDATE: 1 death confirmed in Moffett Road crash, Public Safety Alert issued

"The Mobile Police Department takes any threat towards our schools seriously," said Chief Jackson. "Any time a threat is reported we act quickly to determine the validity of the threat and work diligently to learn where the threat originated."

A sixth grader was arrested and expelled from Causey Middle School at the beginning of September after they made social media threats towards the school.

"These actions hold serious consequences, and if you're found responsible for making a threat, you will be arrested and charged, accordingly. Even if the threat is made as a joke, we find it of no joking matter in today's society and they will still be charged for the crime," said Chief Jackson.

Chief Jackson also said that violence and the threat of violence will not be tolerated.

"I urge parents and guardians to speak to your student so they understand the repercussions associated with these acts. It's imperative you take action at home by addressing these incidents and initiating a conversation with your child. Together, with your help, we can keep our campuses safe."

Schools in Escambia County, Fla., and George County, Miss. have also experienced recent school threats.
