Man dies after alleged stabbing in Marrickville in Sydney’s inner west

A man has died and his assailant is believed to be at large after an alleged stabbing in Sydney's inner west.

Emergency services responded to reports of a man being stabbed on Marrickville Road, Marrickville, at about 7.40pm on Monday.

Officers found an unconscious 32-year-old man on the footpath. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him, but he died at the scene.

Police closed a number of local roads for initial investigations. One local resident wrote on social media that as of about 10pm on Monday, "half of Marrickville is locked down".

Strike Force Nogales has been established to investigate circumstances surrounding the death. Detectives from the State Crime Command's homicide squad are assisting.
