Mom and son hit by car in Miami, sending them to hospital and closing roads, cops say

A mother and her young son were seriously injured after being struck by a car in Allapattah on Friday morning, closing roads and sending them to the hospital, according to Miami police.
The incident happened around 8:20 a.m. during peak rush hour traffic at 1793 NW 20th St.
Police say the mother, about 20 years old, and her 5-year-old son were hit by a car. Both were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center with serious injuries.
Police say the driver remained on the scene.
As a result of the crash, police have closed Northwest 20th Street between 17th and 19th avenues. Drivers are advised to find alternate routes.
