A drunk driver who admitted to police that he was 'too drunk' to drive after crashing his car into a wall has been banned from driving for over two years.

Luke Mills, 44, lost control of his vehicle after consuming four pints, flipping his silver Honda Jazz onto its side on Peakirk Road in Glinton, near Peterborough, on 7 September.

When asked by officers what had happened, Mills simply responded, 'Drunk,' later admitting he had consumed four pints, saying it was 'too much.'

Mills was breathalysed at the scene, recording nearly three times the legal limit, with 93 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35.

Mills, from Eye, Peterborough, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on 27 September, where he pleaded guilty to drink driving.

He was disqualified from driving for two years and four months, ordered to complete a 15-day rehabilitation programme, and fined £140.

PC Nick Southern, Cambridgeshire Constabulary's force's casualty reduction officer, said: 'Mills was aware of the dangers of driving while intoxicated, immediately admitting to officers that he was drunk.

'There is no excuse when it comes to driving while under the influence of drink or drugs, and I urge anyone who is intoxicated to arrange an alternative mode of transport.'
