Monroe County homicide: Man charged in fatal stabbing in Stroudsburg

A man is charged in a fatal stabbing that happened Sunday afternoon in Monroe County, according to police.

Stroud Area Regional Police said in a news release that Justin Martinez, 30, fatally stabbed the man during an altercation about 4:20 p.m. in the 300 block of Main Street in Stroudsburg.

The victim was dropping his children off with their mother when Martinez, the mother's brother, met him on the front porch and got into a physical altercation with him, according to the release.

Witnesses told authorities that the fight took place on the porch and the two broke through the porch and fell to the sidewalk, police said. The victim was found on the sidewalk suffering from multiple stab wounds to his neck and upper body area, the release states.

The ground was covered in blood and a steak knife was found near the porch, according to authorities. Martinez called 911 and said he stabbed a man, according to the release.

The victim, 41, of Stroudsburg, was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries about 4:45 p.m. His identity will be released pending the notification of his next-of-kin.

Martinez was arraigned Monday morning on a charge of homicide. He was sent to Monroe County Prison without bail.
