MONROE, La. (KNOE) - City of Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis declared August 27, 2024, "Taurian Collins, Jr., Day" in honor of the Monroe 6-year-old who was accepted into the Mensa.

Taurian Collins, Jr., was accepted into Mensa in March of 2024. This organization recognizes people who score in the 98th percentile in standardized testing.

Taurian made the achievement despite starting his toddler years off not being talking. His mother, Jessica Collins, said Taurian was non-verbal until he had his adenoids removed and tubes put into his ears.

His parents said he has not stopped talking since!

Monroe Ellis' proclamation describes Taurian as a kid who loves to explore the wonders of the universe along with playing soccer, video games, and spending time with his family.

Taurian said he has dreams of becoming an engineer or astronaut for NASA.
