Montrose celebrates 200 years of history

"We wanted to make sure that the stories that we had for the first 200 years came back to us this weekend," said Bevilacqua. Stories such as being founded by a Revolutionary War soldier and being a safe place for people fleeing in the Civil War.

In the 1800s, Montrose played an important part in the Underground Railroad, houses like the Torrey House served as sanctuaries for formerly enslaved people so that they can get food and shelter before they traveled north.
