ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. () — The St. Landry Parish School Board is celebrating one ribbon cutting after another as a result of renovations to more than a dozen schools across the parish.

School board member Anthony Standberry and Director of Operations Claudia Blanchard said the school board secured the funding for new buildings and renovations from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund, or ESSER.

"With ESSER funds, federal funds, we were able to do some nice additions to schools that really needed some work. Create some air-quality space. The additions beautified the campuses, but it was necessary spaces for children," Standberry said.

KLFY Daily Digest News 10 had the chance to visit some of the locations that received newly constructed buildings, including Port Barre Elementary which received two new eight-classroom buildings, and Cankton Elementary, which also welcomed an eight-classroom building.

Along with the smiling students attending class in the new buildings, board members like Standberry say this can be the start of positive momentum for the continued growth of schools parish-wide.

"It was very much needed. I'm hoping that these additions to our campuses will let our parents see what our children could have in the future should they decide to support us," Standberry said.
