Mostly cloudy and humid today; tropical moisture arrives Wednesday
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Good Tuesday morning! Off to a warm and humid start with overcast skies and a few areas of light showers. Heading towards daybreak we trend more mostly cloudy with the light rain moving out of the forecast.
This afternoon will see temperatures climb into the low 80s with mostly cloudy skies and breezy conditions out of the southeast. By later this evening and tonight expect the clouds to be back in full force with overcast skies ahead of tropical moisture that arrives for Wednesday.
Off and on scattered showers and storms (from Tropical Storm Rafael) will be likely for most of the day and linger into Thursday. This will be very beneficial rainfall with upwards of 2" of rainfall possible over the two day period.
A stalled front will help keep a few showers in the forecast through the rest of the week and into the weekend before we see clearer skies for Veterans Day.
Rafael was named Monday afternoon and continues to strengthen across the western Caribbean. It will reach category one hurricane strength by Wednesday morning and emerge in the gulf after making landfall in Cuba late Wednesday. The aforementioned stalled front should help keep Rafael southward and westward of Columbus.
