Mother pleads in baby’s death in Olney
GRAHAM ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The mother of a baby girl who died in Olney in 2023 has pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide.
Jasmine Smith, 28, was sentenced to 3 years probation in the plea in 90th District Court In Graham.
Man charged with assaulting teen during overdose
Eight-month-old Yana Massengale died at the Olney Hospital on March 29, 2023, after police responded to an Olney R-V park on Springcreek Road on a nonresponsive infant.
Texas Rangers were called to assist after police said the circumstances of the death were suspicious.
The Department of Public Safety said a grand jury returned an indictment against Smith several months later, determining she caused the death of the infant.
Yana was born July 5, 2022, in Jacksboro and was survived by six siblings.
