A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed Friday evening when he crashed into a vehicle that turned in front of him, Tucson police said.

The Tucson Police Department gave the following account in a news release:

Andrew Martinez was riding a blue 2017 Suzuki GSX 1300 motorcycle eastbound in the 6100 block of East Broadway around 7:30 p.m. when the crash occurred. He was traveling at a high speed when he collided with a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander, which was attempting to turn left into a parking lot.

Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Outlander was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with minor injuries.

Excessive speed by Martinez and failure to yield while turning by the Outlander's driver were the major contributing factors in the collision, police said.

Martinez was wearing a helmet but did not have a proper motorcycle endorsement associated with his driver's license, police said.
