Motorcyclist dead after high-speed crash on Western Avenue in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A man died as the result of a crash on Western Avenue Tuesday evening, and Knoxville Police say speed was a factor in the crash.

Officers responded to the area of the crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck on Western Avenue and Knoxville College Drive around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Based on the investigation, police believe the motorcycle was traveling west on Western Avenue at speeds possibly in excess of 100 miles per hour when it struck the rear of a GMC pickup truck, KPD said. The truck turned onto Western Avenue from 21st Street before the crash happened.

The driver of the motorcycle was taken to UT Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Knoxville Police identified him as a 35-year-old man.
