Motorcyclist dies in crash with U-turning SUV, police

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — A motorcyclist died after colliding with an SUV making a U-turn Friday, police said.

According to law enforcement officials, the collision occurred just before 5 p.m. Friday on Nellis Boulevard near Las Vegas Boulevard in northeast Las Vegas. There, a motorcycle speeding south down Nellis Boulevard and a crossover SUV making a U-turn crashed, police said.

The motorcyclist died on the scene. Detectives are investigating the crash. Police were not yet able to determine which party was at fault.

Impairment was not suspected to have played a factor in the crash on the part of the SUV driver. Investigators weren't immediately able to determine if the motorcyclist was impaired.

Police said Nellis Boulevard was closed in both directions between Las Vegas Boulevard and Gowan Road as of 8:30 p.m. and will remain closed for several hours. Commuters are advised to avoid the area.
