A motorcyclist was killed in a Monday morning collision with an SUV in northern Duluth.

The Duluth Police Department said the crash was reported at 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of West Arrowhead and Rice Lake roads.

The motorcycle driver, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not disclose further details of how the crash occurred, other than to note that two additional vehicles were involved in a "secondary collision."

There were no signs of impairment by any of the drivers, police said, and no additional injuries were reported. The incident resulted in the area being closed to traffic for several hours.

Identities were being withheld pending notification of family members.

The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with the crash investigation and reconstruction to determine if any charges are warranted.
