Mount Horeb voters OK school referendum for building upgrades
Voters supported the Mount Horeb School District's $34 million referendum Tuesday, giving the district money it needs to pay for building renovations.
About 63% of voters were in favor of the referendum. The $34 million will pay for the demolition of the district's outdated early learning center and for additions to the district's primary center. Planned updates include new kindergarten classrooms and special-education areas, an expanded library and gym, and a new driveway to reduce traffic around the school.
Referendum dollars also will pay for updates to special-education classrooms in the middle school, a new gym roof for the intermediate center and select repairs at Mount Horeb High School.
Homeowners will pay about $68 per $100,000 in home value in added property taxes. Construction would begin in 2026 and wrap up by 2028, according to district estimates.
Voters in Mount Horeb last supported referendums in 2022 and 2017, a $4.8 million operating referendum and a $38.5 million facilities referendum, respectively.
