Multiple fire departments respond to blaze in Dixon County

WATERBURY, Neb. (KCAU) — Multiple fire departments have responded to a blaze between Ponca and Waterbury.

The fire is currently burning between Highway 9 and Highway 20 on 591 Avenue.

Officials were unable to provide the exact location of the fire, but there is a lot of smoke in the area and the fire has spread.

Officials said that the fire began as a field fire that spread to a nearby ditch and across the road to another field. Wind was a factor in the spreading of the fire.

Crews told KCAU 9 that they were able to extinguish the fire quickly. Officials continue to monitor for hotspots to prevent the fire from rekindling.
