Multiple rescues as vehicles trapped in flooding

A number of people have been rescued after their vehicles being stuck on flooded roads in Devon.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service made four separate rescues in the Crediton and Broadclyst area of Devon on Wednesday.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain on Wednesday, with it leading to travel disruption and flooding in places.

At about 11:00 BST crews from Crediton station attended a vehicle stuck in flood water. It said fire crews "donned" water rescue suits and used wading poles to reach the vehicle.

It said crews "successfully assisted three occupants from the vehicle to a place of safety".

Middlemore fire station attended a vehicle stuck in water in the Broadclyst area at about 12:20 BST on Wednesday, the fire service said.

It said contact was made with the occupant and firefighters "successfully assisted the occupant of the vehicle to a place of safety".

Another driver was rescued from their vehicle, stuck in about 3ft (90cm) of flood water, by Crediton fire crews at about 12:29 BST. The person was bought to a place of safety.

At 13:55 BST Crediton fire crews attended another report of a vehicle being stuck in about 3ft of flood water and helped the driver to safety.
