Naresh Bhatt returns to court as prosecutors push to keep him jailed in Mamta Kafle case
Naresh Bhatt, the Manassas Park man accused in the disappearance and death of his wife is for a hearing Thursday morning.
Naresh, 37, was arrested in the disappearance of Mamta and charged with Prohibition Against Concealment of a Dead Body. Mamta went missing at the end of July and is presumed dead.
TIMELINE:
His public defending is working to get him out from behind bars, while prosecutors are working to keep him there.
The defense is arguing police lied to get his arrest warrant, so there was no probable cause to arrest him. The defense also claims Mamta could still be alive and missing
"The judge is not going to throw the case out because of this minor misstatement in the arrest warrant," said Fishwick. "There's a lot of other evidence that was in that arrest warrant, not just this detail. So it's a heavy lift for the defense in any sort of case."The commonwealth has subpoenaed records to the couples employers and Fishwick said that's likely to nail down a detailed timeline which is significant evidence.
Additionally, Mamta's disappearance has sparked an outpouring of support from the northern Virginia and Nepali community, with many calling for justice.
Her supporters have gathered at every court hearing.
A pre-trial hearing is set for Nov. 20. His in December.
