National Reaction To Steelers Loss: Time For A QB Switch? Here's what sports writers are saying about the Steelers 20-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

PITTSBURGH, PA — For those who missed the end of a Sunday night game that started 90 minutes late because of severe weather, the Steelers came up short in a disappointing last minute 20-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys at Acrisure Stadium.

The Steelers offense once again struggled, leading to some sports writers suggesting that quarterback Justin Fields soon could be benched in favor of Russell Wilson, who has battled a nagging calf injury but is close to being able to play.

Here is what some sports writers across the country are saying about Sunday's defeat:>

  • Jacob Punturi, Sports Illustrated: "The Steelers are having trouble again this season establishing a passing identity and their number one receiver (George Pickens) is struggling because of it. Now at 3-2 and losing their early dominance over the division, the team's passing game and their top receiver appear weaker than ever."
  • Jared Dubin & Garrett Podell, CBS Sports: "Why the Steelers lost: They completely lacked offensive rhythm despite facing a depleted Dallas defense. Five of their 10 drives ended in punts, and two others were the end of the first half plus a last-second lateral fest following the Cowboys' go ahead score. Quarterback Justin Fields simply couldn't beat the Cowboys defense with his arm frequently enough."
  • Grant Gordon, NFL.Com: "Justin Fields looked to be pressing amid his struggles and after a second straight loss, one has to wonder what's next at QB for the Steelers. Russell Wilson is getting healthier, and Fields' winning touch has been washed away. If Mike Tomlin wants to light a fire, perhaps a change lies ahead."
  • Ray Fitipaldo, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "Justin Fields continues to struggle early in games...the first-half wores are costing this team big time and putting too much pressure on the defense to win the game every week. Time to go to Russell Wilson if he is healthy for the Raiders game?"
  • Andrew Greif, NBC Sports: "For most of the night, the Cowboys' offense was far superior, yet routinely had nothing to show for it because of mistakes, often by quarterback Dak Prescott, who threw two interceptions and also lost a fumble."
