Nebraska sandwich — the Reuben — wins nod on dating website
If the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, what dishes will do the trick?
A website, datingadvice.com , decided to find out, interviewing 3,000 men to see what foods would win them over.
And the Reuben sandwich, invented at Omaha's Blackstone Hotel in the early part of the last century, was in the top ten at No. 9.
"This hearty sandwich combines corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing on rye bread, creating a tangy and savory delight that is sure to win over any male sandwich enthusiast," the website's list said.
We can't speak about the rest of the country, but Reubens remain popular in Omaha.
The Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel, in the same building that housed the Blackstone near 36th and Farnam Streets, serves one that's similar to the original with a few tweaks like horseradish and mustard. Other great Reubens can be found at Crescent Moon, across the street from the hotel; Dundee Dell, near 50th Street and Underwood Avenue; Omaha Gourmet Reuben online; and Paddy McGown's, near 45th and Center Streets.
Three other dishes with Nebraska ties made the list: corn chowder at No. 61, runzas at No. 82 and bierocks (essentially the same thing as runzas) at No. 222.
