Comedy fans can rejoice as a popular Australian ABC series has landed on Netflix - 12 years after its TV debut.

Upper Middle Bogan, which was once dubbed the 'funniest show ever' by a fan, ran between 2013 and 2016, spanning three seasons and 24 episodes.

The show follows the story of two families living at opposite ends of the freeway in Melbourne .

Protagonist Bess Denyar is a doctor with a posh mother, Margaret, an architect husband, Danny Bright, and twin 13-year-olds at a private school, Oscar and Edwina.

When Bess finds out that she is adopted, she is left stunned when she meets her birth parents, Wayne and Julie Wheeler.

She also discovers that she has three biological siblings: Amber, Kayne and Brianna.

The 'bogan' Wheelers are into drag racing in the outer suburbs and are ecstatic to discover the daughter they thought they had lost.

Created by Robyn Butler and Wayne Hope, it stars Annie Maynard, Patrick Brammall, Glenn Robbins, Robyn Malcolm, Robyn Nevin and Michala Banas.

In an interview with Female when the show first came out, Annie described how 'unique' the series was.

'When you look at the title you think it will be a satirical comedy however...someone described Upper Middle Bogan Modern Family meets Sylvania Waters,' she said.

'It has a lot of affection, warmth and hopefully a lot of depth to it as well as the really funny moments. It's not a heightened stereotypical comedy it's more naturisms.'

She also said the show was anything but condescending, saying it 'wasn't poking fun at privilege or bogans' but was a 'gentle look at class in Australia which we are not that comfortable with'.

When asked why she thought the show became so popular, Annie told Girl AU : 'With Upper Middle Bogan it's relatable on both sides of the story, there is what some might refer to as the 'snobby family' and then there is the 'bogan family' but there is certainly not clichés of those two categories.

'Everyone has a bit of a snob in them and a bit of a bogan in them; I know when I'm at a super fancy restaurant or a big event I feel like a bogan and then when I go somewhere super bogan I feel like a snob (laughs)!

'You can relate on both sides to both families featured in the show which provides a really nice balance.

'There is a lot of love in the show which makes it warm and that is certainly a reason to watch, that's for sure!'

The series also stars Maddy Jevic, who went on to appear on Married at First Sight Australia last year.
