Sep. 13—Lincoln County has a new guardian of its natural resources.

Jacob Haberlock, a dedicated Montanan with deep roots in Montana's wilderness, officially assumed the role of game warden for the area in June 2023.

Haberlock, who previously worked as a technician for the state's fisheries crew in Libby, is excited to embark on this new chapter of his career, driven by a lifelong passion for wildlife management.

Born in Havre and raised in Bigfork, Haberlock's connection to Montana's wild landscapes has been a constant throughout his life. After graduating from Bigfork High School in 2016, he pursued higher education at Montana State University in Bozeman, graduating in the spring of 2021.

During his college years, Haberlock balanced his studies with seasonal work, fighting forest fires for the U.S. Forest Service each summer and working at Murdoch's during the school year.

From an early age, Haberlock's career aspirations were clear.

"Since the fifth grade, I've always wanted to be a game warden or work in some type of wildlife management position," he said.

This long-held dream is now a reality and his commitment to Montana's ecosystems is evident in his approach to the job.

An avid fly fisherman and hunter, Haberlock's enthusiasm for Montana's wildlife and wilderness is matched only by his dedication to preserving these resources.

"Where we live and what we have most people don't have access to," he noted.

His goal as the game warden is to ensure that Montana's unique ecosystems continue to thrive while balancing the enjoyment of hunters and anglers with strict adherence to laws and regulations.

As Haberlock steps into his role, the community of Libby can look forward to a vigilant and passionate steward of their natural resources. His blend of local knowledge and professional experience positions him well to uphold and protect the natural beauty and wildlife of Lincoln County.
