New incentives awarded to Haywood’s chief competitors for newcomers
Brownsville and Haywood County don't have incentives aimed at developers like those being used by our top competitors for BlueOval City newcomers. Tax Incentive Financing (TIF) is apparently luring developers ready to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Shelby County.
This week, two Shelby County municipalities were approved for TIFs. Monday, Lakeland and Arlington won approval from Shelby County Commissioners for the new incentives.
The tax incentives don't raise taxes but route tax money from growth to help pay for the infrastructure that goes along with expansion.
TIFs may be on the way to Haywood County, though.
The Brownsville Haywood County Industrial Development Board has hired a consultant to help write TIF policies. Awarding TIFs for development is eventually up to the Brownsville City Board and Haywood County Commission.
