New Orleans Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi reveals he had disgusting accident before Atlanta Falcons win

New Orleans Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi revealed he clogged the toilet in his locker room before taking charge of his first-ever NFL game on Sunday.

The 54-year-old Rizzi, the Saints' special teams coordinator, was given his first head coaching opportunity on Monday after the firing of third-year coach Dennis Allen.

It proved to be the right decision as Rizzi led the Saints to a vital 20-17 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

But clearly Rizzi was full of nerves before the game and shared, perhaps in too much detail, what happened in the hours before kick off in New Orleans.

Speaking to reporters after the victory over their divisional rivals, Rizzi said: 'I'm a pretty open guy. This is how my day started.

'I get down here to the stadium and go into the head coach's locker room, which I've never used before.

'So here I am early in the morning, going to the bathroom and I clogged the toilet.

'I'm like, this is gonna be a c****y day. Pun intended. I'm like "this is not a great start to the day. I'm not really feeling like the head coach of an NFL team right now".'

It actually turned out to be a perfect day for Rizzi as the Saints snapped their seven-game run without a win thanks to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who caught three passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns.

His triumphant debut came not only against the NFC South ́s first-place team, but the Saints' oldest regional rival.

Tyrann Mathieu thwarted a promising Atlanta drive with an interception of Kirk Cousins at the New Orleans 38 with two minutes to go.

Atlanta got the ball back after Alvin Kamara, who had 109 yards from scrimmage and became the Saints' all-time rushing leader, stunningly dropped Derek Carr's accurate third down pass deep down the left sideline for what could have been a game-clinching first down.

But just as Atlanta crossed midfield, Chase Young's sack and strip of Cousins caused a 19-yard loss back to the Atlanta 32-yard line with 34 seconds remaining.

Although the Falcons recovered, the play proved pivotal.

The Falcons were forced to use their final timeout and had to make a rushed decision two plays later on whether to try a 60-yard field goal or keep the offense on the field after a completion gave them fourth-and-four on the New Orleans 43 with 18 seconds left and the clock running.

Atlanta tried a quick pass to Ray-Ray McCloud III, who was tackled short of first-down yardage by Ugo Amadi as time expired.
