New ponds set for Lake View Park in Coventry river revival scheme

Plans to widen a waterway and create new ponds at a wetland park have been approved as part of a project to redirect a river to its historical route.

The scheme, run by the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, aims to restore part of the River Sherbourne.

The latest phase of the project will see a new "suite of wetland features" created at Lake View Park in Spon End, Coventry, after plans were approved by the city council.

The project will improve existing habitats for wildlife in the park, create a healthier river system and allow for better water storage during floods, the plans said.

The wider project is benefiting from a £3m funding pot from the trust for improving a stretch of the river from Corley Moor, to the north east of the city, to Whitley Abbey in the south.

In Lake View Park, the river channel will be widened at four points with the addition of four ponds and two additional wetland features.

In total, 14 new features will be built at the park.
