Notre Dame junior Benjamin Morrison is back with the football program and in good spirits following his October season-ending hip injury, which required surgery.

In Fighting Irish coach Marcus Freeman's Thursday news conference over Zoom, he revealed that Morrison is progressing in his rehabilitation process and is involved in team meetings. He also attended last Saturday's game against Florida State.

"He's doing well," Freeman said. "He's recovering. He is walking without his brace. He's coaching. He's become a coach for us, for that coroner's room. And he's really working hard at just rehabbing. We had our captain's meeting on Monday. His mind's in a great spot in terms of where he is physically and mentally."

On Oct. 14, Freeman ruled Morrison out for the season. In the six games he played this season, opposing quarterbacks targeted him 27 times and only completed 12 passes for 125 yards; their passer rating was 58.4. He had not surrendered a touchdown all season long.

Morrison was a preseason All-American and a potential first-round NFL Draft selection. However, he has not announced whether to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. In addition, Freeman has not shared a timetable for his return.

"I don't know if he's on track or ahead of schedule, but he's really, really doing a good job in terms of trying to work his way back to recovery, where he can run and start doing some football things," Freeman said.

Notre Dame Quote of the Day

"That's a guy, when I think about individuals that reach their full potential, Jack Kiser has definitely done that.

"He's been an unbelievable leader. He's made this place better, and he's going to leave this place better than he found it. It's going to be a great moment for him. He's got a lot of, I would say, a lot of memories that he's made here at Notre Dame."
