NFL Flex Schedule: Seahawks-Eagles moved to ESPN’s ‘Monday Night Football’

The Seattle Seahawks have picked up another prime-time home game, courtesy of the new ‘Monday Night Football’ flex scheduling rule.

Originally scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 17, the Seahawks’ crucial Week 15 match-up against the reigning NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles has been pushed to Monday night, booting out the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots . It’s not only the first use of the MNF flex schedule, it’s the first prime-time flex scheduling replacement of the entire NFL season.

— Adam Schefter November 30, 2023 This had been speculated for a few weeks given the play of the Patriots, who are 2-9 and have lost their last two games by a combined score of 20-13. Even if the Seahawks continue slumping, they’re guaranteed to still be mathematically in the playoff hunt come Week 15, which cannot be said for the Pats.

While the Seahawks still have the matter of tonight’s game against the Dallas Cowboys and then a Sunday road trip to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14, the Eagles will be taking on the 49ers at home this Sunday, followed by a ‘Sunday Night Football’ matchup at the Cowboys.

The Seahawks will have an extra day’s rest for the Eagles game, but that also means a short week to prepare for a Christmas Eve road contest at the Tennessee Titans.
