NFL Thanksgiving 2023: Seahawks vs. 49ers live game updates, highlights, score summary, recap

A.Davis3 months ago
First place in the NFC West is on the line at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington. The Seattle Seahawks (6-4) squandered a huge opportunity to keep themselves in firm playoff position after Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams, but they can still re-take top spot in the division if they pull off the upset over the San Francisco 49ers (7-3). Last year, the Seahawks were swept by the 49ers, including in the playoff game, and weren’t particularly competitive over the course of those match-ups. Will that change this year? It better, or else Seattle could soon find themselves out of the playoff picture entirely.

This is a live summary of all the action, with a full recap and highlights available after the game is over. The 49ers got the ball first after Seattle deferred to the 2nd half. Christian McCaffrey immediately got involved with a 13-yard catch-and-run, beating both Jordyn Brooks and Bobby Wagner in coverage. McCaffrey dashed for 27 yards later on in the opening series and into the Seahawks’ red zone. Deebo Samuel caught a pass on Wagner and then easily scored on a 2-yard handoff to cap off a flawless opening drive.

A Dee Eskridge highlight! The embattled 2021 second-round pick took the ensuing kick return 66 yards. Your eyes aren’t deceiving you! This led to a Jason Myers field goal, as the Seahawks only gained 1 yard after this.

— Seattle Seahawks November 24, 2023 The 49ers offense just carved the Seahawks up with ease. Two big throws by Brock Purdy to a wide open Deebo Samuel had San Francisco in field goal range in next to no time at all. A holding penalty on Jauan Jennings nullified a big run by Christian McCaffrey, which derailed the drive. Leonard Williams blew up a screen pass on 3rd and 14 and knocked them out of field goal range.

Seattle went three-and-out, highlighted by Geno Smith getting tripped by Zach Charbonnet almost for a safety. Thrilling stuff. The subsequent punt by Michael Dickson only went to the Seattle 45. Seattle could’ve gotten off the field on 3rd and 7 if any of Riq Woolen, Devon Witherspoon, or Tre Brown could tackle Jauan Jennings. Instead, he gained 8 to move the sticks.

A 3rd down stop by the Seahawks was negated by Tre Brown very clearly holding George Kittle in the end zone. Christian McCaffrey scored from a yard out to extend the lead to 14-3.

Dee Eskridge gained 11 on a jet sweep, and then Geno got picked off on an out route intended for Tyler Lockett. Ambry Thomas was all over it and just like that, ball at the Seattle 41 for the 49ers.

The Seahawks defense stepped up and prevented the 49ers from getting any points, but a punt backed Seattle up at the 2. DK Metcalf looked to have a catch deep down the sideline on Charvarius Ward, except he drifted out of bounds and couldn’t get a second foot down. Punt time, yet again.

This time, the Seahawks defense wasn’t so stout. Brandon Aiyuk got open for a big gain into Seattle territory, Deebo and Kittle converted 3rd downs, and McCaffrey just slickly outran and evaded the Seahawks defense for his second touchdown.

After another Seahawks three-and-out, the 49ers went three-and-out in solidarity. Devon Witherspoon blew up a screen pass and that put them behind the sticks just before the two-minute warning.

DeeJay Dallas muffed a punt and the 49ers recovered. LOL, that’s all I’ve got. The 49ers kicked a field goal before the break.

Seattle got into a 1-minute drill, finally picked up a couple of first downs, and Jason Myers hooked a 53-yard field goal wide right. Fitting. Stone Forsythe picked up a stupid penalty for body slamming a dude.

Scoring Summary: Deebo Samuel 2-yard touchdown run - SF 7, SEA 0
