NJ Native's Pizzeria Is Best In The World, International Ranking Says While the pizzeria is in New York City, the renowned eatery owned by Anthony Mangieri was originally founded in New Jersey.

NEW YORK CITY — A New Jersey native's Manhattan pizzeria has been recognized as the best in the world, according to an international ranking.

Una Pizza Napoletana in New York City is the No. 1 pizzeria in the world, according to 50 Top Pizza 's 2024 guide that recognizes eateries from multiple countries including Italy, Japan, England and Brazil.

"In a country always accustomed to putting everything on pizza, (pizzamaker and owner Anthony Mangieri) proposes only the purest tradition in toppings, with extraordinary quality ingredients," the ranking says of Una Pizza Napoletana.

Now located on the Lower East Side, Una Pizza Napoletana originally moved to Manhattan's East Village in 2004 after serving up pies for 8 years in Point Pleasant, according to the eatery's website.

Mangieri relocated the pizzeria to San Francisco in 2010 before returning it to Manhattan's Lower East Side in 2018. Mangieri opened a second location in New Jersey's Atlantic Highlands in 2020, but it closed in 2021 .

The honor comes three months after 50 Top Pizza named Una Pizza Napoletana the best pizzeria in the United States.

Mangieri, a Beachwood native, also opened the now-closed Sant Arsenio in Red Bank in 1993.

According to Una Pizza Napoletana's website, Mangieri grew up in a close-knit Italian-American family and developed a pizza obsession at a young age.

"This fixation eventually developed into a lifelong dedication to creating the perfect pizza — something that he remains steadfastly dedicated to every day," the website states.
