Mainly dry, but cloudy conditions will continue today for New Jersey with warmer temperatures and sunshine expected to return later this week, forecasters say.

Tuesday should be mostly cloudy across most of the state with highs in the upper 60s to near 70 and overnight lows dipping into the upper 50s and low 60s, the National Weather Service said.

In Atlantic, Cape May, Gloucester and Salem counties, there's about a 30% of showers during the morning and early afternoon. As of 6:40 a.m., light rain was falling in the southwest corner of New Jersey.

We'll see improvement Wednesday with areas along and near the Jersey Shore seeing some sunshine while the rest of the state remains mostly cloudy with temperatures similar to Tuesday.

On Thursday and Friday we'll have mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s across New Jersey, the weather service said. The extended forecast calls for a pleasant first weekend of October with plenty of sun and highs again in the 70s. Overnight lows through the week should be in the 50s.

Normal temperatures in New Jersey typically range from the mid 50s to low 70s.

The remnants of what was Tropical Storm Joyce dissipated in the Atlantic Ocean on Monday night. Hurricane Kirk in the center of the Atlantic is not expected to threaten land. A disturbance in the southwest Caribbean Sea is showing signs of organization and could develop into a tropical depression in the coming days.
