TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — A shooting at Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe on Friday sparked fear in shoppers and had some shoppers hiding in stores.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. at the mall near Interstate 10 and Baseline Road.

Police said it wasn't an active shooter and that no one was hurt. Officers originally called it a "shooting incident."

Dozens of police officers and Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies showed up to the scene, blocking off different exits of the mall.

Two teens said they had to hide in fear.

"We just saw people running down the hall and we went into the back room and we heard there was a shooting in the dining hall," one said.

"I was just like scared. I saw people running so I was freaked out. I didn't know what was going on, so I just like hid back there," the other said.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting or where in the mall it happened.

An investigation is underway.
