Norfolk begins rehabilitation project on E. Virginia Beach Boulevard Bridge
NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The City of Norfolk is set to begin a major rehabilitation project on the East Virginia Beach Boulevard Bridge over Broad Creek.
According to a release, the project will address key structural updates, improve pedestrian access and ensure long-term durability for one of the city's vital transportation routes.
The scope of work includes the removal of a portion of the bridge, sidewalk and railing. Improvements include a new section of bridge and sidewalk being recast in concrete and a new railing system being installed to enhance both safety and visibility.
The outside eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed for approximately five months. During certain stages of construction, both outside lanes will be closed to accommodate the staging of a crane on the bridge for several weeks.
Drivers and pedestrians are advised to plan for potential delays. Electronic message boards will be in place prior to and throughout the project.
Construction is set to begin on Nov. 12 and is expected to be complete by August of 2025.
