North Little Rock flips switch on 30-acre solar panel array
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – An event on Wednesday in North Little Rock marked an important step in the city's move to renewable energy.
The Flip the Switch event was held at Today's Power, Inc. (TPI) headquarters off Industry Drive. TPI, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary, was joined by North Little Rock Electric Department (NLRED) representatives as a new 5-megawatt solar array was brought online.
More than $2.5 million in grants into Arkansas for solar power projects
Upon completion, the solar array will feature 16,000 solar panels over 30 acres of land, ultimately supplying 7 megawatts of energy, which officials say is enough to power 1,200 homes in the NLRED service area.
NLRED General Manager Ryan Wilson said the project aligned with NLRED's commitment to reliable, affordable energy for North Little Rock.
"This solar array will be a huge benefit in keeping rates affordable and increasing reliability," Wilson said. "Those two things are extremely important to our customers and to economic development."

TPI General Counsel John Elkins said the project will benefit North Little Rock for the next 25 years.
