North Shore Children's Museum Of Peabody Tabs New Executive Director Jennifer Kowal was most recently the external relations manager for the Providence Children'sMuseum in Rhode Island.

PEABODY, MA — An experienced fundraiser who has worked in museum and gallery management on Martha's Vineyard, and in Connecticut and Rhode Island is the new executive director of the North Shore Children's Museum of Peabody.

Jennifer Kowal, who most recently was the external relations manager for the Providence Children's Museum in Rhode Island, will take over museum management after her appointment from Mayor Ted Bettencourt.

"We interviewed a number of very well-qualified applicants for executive director, and we feel that Jennifer is particularly well-suited for the role," Bettencourt said. "In addition to her background in fundraising, Jennifer has extensive experience in the day-to-day operations of successful museums.

"She has a proven track record which will help the Children's Museum continue its dynamic growth."

Kowal replaces Ali Haydock, who was the museum's executive director since its inception two years ago.

"I am thrilled by the opportunity to lead the North Shore Children's Museum into the future," Kowal said. "I look forward to working in Peabody and creating more opportunities for children to learn and grow."

Kowal earned her undergraduate degree in anthropology from the University of Connecticut and a master's degree in museum studies from Johns Hopkins University.

She began her career as gallery manager at Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown and in 2018 was named Executive Director of Arts Center East in Vernon, Connecticut. As executive director, she secured funding through private foundations, state and government grants, and individual and business donations.

She was then named Assistant Director at Slater Memorial Museum in Norwich, Connecticut where she spearheaded the annual appeal and membership drives.

Among her chief responsibilities in Providence was overseeing the museum's major fundraising events.
