Notre Dame took plenty of momentum into the bye week after picking up another ranked win. That moved the Fighting Irish to 5-1, and there were some encouraging signs from the offense. Riley Leonard completed 17 of 23 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns while leading the running game with 52 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

The defense also made some big plays, recovering two fumbles and recording an interception when Xavier Watts picked off Tyler Shough . After the game, though, Marcus Freeman said the Fighting Irish still have a long way to go. That's where the bye week will be important.

"Yeah, we have to get better," Freeman said , via Blue and Gold's Kyle Kelly . "That's the most important thing. Part of this week will be out recruiting. You know, we have to continue to recruit and go see some guys.

"But the main emphasis of this week is how do we improve. Part of improving will be to get healthy. (We) got to get healthy in areas that we can. Got to look at schematically where can we continue to enhance. We have to get better. I'm confident we will."
