NWS predicts hot July 4 for San Angelo — how you can beat the heat

SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — With the Fourth of July upon us, many Americans will go outside and turn their eyes to the sky to celebrate the occasion. The fireworks and grills aren't the only things that are hot, though.

According to the National Weather Service of San Angelo's seven-day forecast , Independence Day is predicted to be hot and sunny with an approximate high of 104 F and a heat advisory in effect until 8 p.m. The service also stated that the day has heat indices near 107 F, making outside festivities feel particularly sweltering.

Where to watch fireworks and celebrate July 4 in San Angelo

Wind is also expected to accompany the scorching temperatures, blowing in from the south at 10 mph and having gusts as fast as 20 mph.

The temperature is predicted to drop to a 78 F low during the nighttime hours. The southern wind may also die down during this time, clocking in at speeds of 5 mph to 10 mph.

To help San Angelo residents enjoy the outdoors during the hot holiday, the NWS offered up a few tips for protecting oneself against the heat. These tips are as follows:

  • Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol. Beverages with electrolytes can also help protect against heat stress.

  • Apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) every two hours.

  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting and light-colored clothing.

  • Take regular breaks in the shade.
