Weather Service confirms EF1 tornado in Clare County Friday

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids concludes that damage left behind by severe storms on Friday near Lake George and other parts of Clare County was caused by an EF-1 tornado.

The tornado started in/just west of Lake George around 4:57pm then crossed over Lake George causing widespread tree and powerline damage. The tornado tracked east-northeast along and just north of E Mannsiding Rd, eventually crossing US-127 before ending just before crossing M-61 around 5:30pm.

The tornado ranks as an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale (EF-0 to EF-5) with maximum winds of 95 mph. It tracked for 12 miles and roughly a half hour.
