Forecast: Cooling, but the overall pattern continues

As expected, highs soared Saturday as south winds imported hotter air into Iowa.

The record high for this date in Des Moines was not reached, however. That high of 95 was reached in 1963.

The heating was helped along by those winds. A look at peak wind gusts across Iowa below.

From the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, a look at the trend in days in Des Moines reaching highs of 90 or greater since record-keeping began.

Expect a cooler and breezy day as we head into Sunday. Winds will not be as strong as the ones we saw today.

The image below from the Weather Prediction Center says it all in terms of precipitation chances ahead this week.

Of note: it appears we'll see another hurricane make landfall somewhere in the area of Florida by Wednesday this upcoming week. Folks in the area will unfortunately need to prepare once again.
