NYSP investigate an accident that occurred at Massena U.S. Port of Entry

MASSENA, N.Y. (WWTI) – The New York State Police are investigating an accident that occurred early Thursday morning at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Port of Entry in Massena.

Around 2:45 a.m., State troopers responded to a report of a personal injury accident. An investigation determined a black dirtbike, operated by an 18-year-old female from Akwesasne, Ontario, was traveling south on Seaway International Bridge in the northbound lane in the town of Massena.

The operator failed to stop at the U.S. Customs Border checkpoint and continued to drive south against traffic. Border Patrol officers put the safety barrier in place.

However, the operator struck the barrier, causing her to eject from the dirtbike. The operator was transported to Massena Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
