Ohio State med school research has more than doubled over the past decade
COLUMBUS, Ohio ( ) — Ohio State University 's medical school spent a record $477.3 million on research for fiscal year 2024, up 13% from a year ago, boosted by new multimillion-dollar grants for studies in behavioral health and tobacco.
The College of Medicine is usually responsible for about one-quarter of research spending for all of OSU's 15 colleges. Med school research this year was more than double its total of any one year from 2015-18, according to university data.
Increased collaboration across different specialties has helped propel the increase, Dr. Carol Bradford, medical school dean and vice president for health sciences at OSU Wexner Medical Center, said in a press release. "The College of Medicine is part of one of the nation's top academic medical centers, so we're uniquely positioned for collaboration and team science," Bradford said. "Our faculty, staff and learners are working to advance research that uncovers timely and much-needed solutions to evolving healthcare challenges."
