Omaha Symphonic Winds to present patriotic concert on Sunday
Omaha Symphonic Winds will play a variety of patriotic and reflective pieces at its first concert of the season on Sunday.
The performance, titled "United," was programmed with selections that may help people heal their differences, said Rex Barker, music director for the 65-member ensemble.
Works on the program include "An American Fanfare" by Rick Kirby, "American Elegy" by Frank Tichell and "Cosmopolitan America" by Beatrice, Nebraska, native Helen May Barker, who led an all-female concert band.
In addition, John Bourne will narrate "Lincoln Portrait," Aaron Copland's salute to the 16th president, and Omaha North High band director Amber Bock will lead the musicians on "American Salute" by Morton Gould.
The concert will end with "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood. It will begin at 3 p.m. at Bellevue East High School, 1401 High School Drive. Tickets, $10 for adults and $5 for students, are available at the door.
