One killed, one injured after hit-and-run, police investigating shooting on same street

A 20-year-old died and a 23-year-old was injured after a vehicle struck them while crossing the street and left the scene late Saturday night, the Milwaukee Police Department said.

The pedestrians were crossing N. 76th St. when they were hit by a vehicle traveling northbound. The 20-year-old suffered fatal injuries, police said, and the 23-year old was taken to a local hospital for non-fatal injuries.

The vehicle left the scene and was later located, Milwaukee police said. A 34-year-old was taken into custody and charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

Milwaukee has seen a string of fatal hit-and-runs this year, including downtown along North Water Street .

Police are also investigating a shooting that happened in the same location at 1:00 a.m., about an hour after the hit-and-run. The shooting happened on the 7300 block of N. 76th St. A 32-year-old was taken to a hospital for non-fatal injuries.

Police are investigating what led to the shooting and are looking for unknown suspects. Police did not say the hit-and-run and shooting are related.
