Online shopping rivals Black Friday deals in East Cleveland shopping center

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Recently, the Black Friday hype has died down over the years, and shoppers are pinning the blame to online shopping.

As the “Black Friday” deals have expanded past just the Friday after Thanksgiving, the want for consumers has died down. Many saying that the reason is the accessibility of online shopping.

“With the early deals, I think people are pretty much waiting until later also, maybe to come out,” Black Friday Shopper Bonita Prewitt said. “But I think people are waiting a little later instead of that 5 or 6 a.m. shopping now they’re waiting a little later, maybe again because they’ve done all their online shopping.”

While others believe the economy is a leading cause.

“It’s a lot of things that are getting expensive, and people kind of trying to...save money... they’ve just been getting wiser,” Black Friday Shopper Vijay Raina said.

Overall though, the effects aren’t as noticeable in larger shopping centers.

“Even though Cleveland historically has been a cold area, I think the weather today is not too bad as far as... I mean it could be worse, it could be snowing, it could be raining so the fact that we’re just getting a little bit of breeze and just 40 degree weather it’s not too bad,’’ Black Friday Shopper Kevin Prewitt said.
