Orangemen runners heading to state meet

The Beatrice boys cross country team qualified for the NSAA State Cross Country Meet on Thursday.

The Orangemen finished third in the B-4 District in Lexington, which sends them to the state meet as a team.

Senior Josiah Quinones led the way for the Orangemen with a second place time of 16:32.49. He was bested only by Hastings' Austin Carrera, who finished with a time of 16:20.32.

Beatrice senior Lucas Frazier finished fourth with a time of 16:41.12 while freshman Charles Scott finished 13th with a time of 18:03.15.

That trio will be joined at state by freshman James Given and sophomores Tobias Kidder and Ethan Cerveny.

The two-time Class B State Champion Norris girls are heading back to state after winning the B-3 District on Thursday.

Defending individual state champion Kendall Zavala won the B-3 district meet with a time of 18:50.84 while senior teammate Atlee Wallman finished second with a time of 18:57.22. Senior Hailley Finkner finished fourth with a time of 20:03.21, junior Kennedy Powell finished sixth with a time of 20:25.83, senior Tanna Petsche finished 12th with a time of 21:16.03 and sophomore Lydia Dominy finished 13th with a time of 21:18.65.

The Norris boys finished third in the B-3 District, which qualifies them for state. Sophomore Samuel Robinson led the way for the Titans with a fourth place finish. He'll be joined at state by seniors Dalton Weber, Nicholas Boon, Revlin Weber, Cole Bare and junior Hunter Dilley.

Freeman, Tri County qualify for state

The Sunland is sending four teams to the Class D state meet.

Freeman and Tri County qualified both boys and girls teams for state.

The Freeman boys won the D-1 District. Senior Jobjosiah Muthiani won the individual championship with a time of 16:55. Sophomore Emmanuel Muthiani finished eighth with a time of 17:49.50 and senior Brady Troxel finished ninth with a time of 17:50.

That trio will be joined at state by freshman Beau Miller and junior Luke Van Cott.

The Freeman girls also won the D-1 District on Thursday. Sophomore Trinity Buss led the way for the Lady Falcons with a fifth place time of 21:26.98 while senior Jordyn Pella finished eighth with a time of 22:07.35. Senior Adi Lempka finished 15th with a time of 22:38.67.

That trio will be joined at state by freshman Ila Havelka and senior Reagan Miller.

The Tri County boys finished third at the D-1 District Meet. Sophomore Samuel Holsing led the way for the Trojans with a third place time of 17:15. Junior Drew Siems finished 12th with a time of 18:10 and junior Henry Kapke finished 13th with a time of 18:11.

That trio will be joined at state by junior Ethan Rosenthal and freshman Devon Rasmussen.

The Tri County girls finished runner-up in the D-1 District. Freshman Sage Holtmeier finished second with a time of 20:13.53 while junior Isabelle Peters finished third with a time of 20:44.85.

That duo will be joined at state by senior Ashton Schwisow and junior Jenna Woitalewicz.

Johnson County Central will be sending two runners to the Class C race at state. Senior Logan Topp finished 12th in the boys race with a time of 17:45.60 while junior Madison VanLaningham finished sixth in the girls race with a time of 21:27.88.

Wilber-Clatonia junior Evan Odvody finished seventh in the C-4 District meet with a time of 17:43.82, which qualifies him for state.

The NSAA State Track and Field Meet is slated for Friday, Oct. 25 at the Kearney Country Club.
